Diesel Mechanic Apprentice Requisition Id: 383983 Business Unit: LTL Location: Columbus, OH, US, 43228 **What you'll need to succeed as a Mechanic Apprentice at XPO** Minimum qualifications: + 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair -OR- a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance + A valid driver's license + Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends + Brake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25 + Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19 + Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance Preferred qualifications: + High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience + Previous or current ASE certifications + Diesel tech school diploma + Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades + Basic computer skills + Basic welding skills such as Oxy/Acetylene, ARC and MIG **About the Mechanic Apprentice job** Pay, benefits and more: + Pay starts at $27.45/hour + $1/hour increase for 2nd shift: 3:00pm-11:30pm Monday - Friday + $3/hour increase for 3rd shift: 11:00pm-7:30am Monday - Friday + Quarterly tool allowance to grow your tool kit + Competitive compensation package + Full health insurance benefits available on day one + Life and disability insurance + Earn up to 13 days of PTO over your first year + 9 paid company holidays + 401(k) option with company match + Education assistance + Opportunity to participate in a company incentive plan + This is a Motor Carrier Act Exempt position What you'll do on a typical day: + Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturer, DOT, and company schedules + Apply knowledge and work by DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations, as required + Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of vehicles and trailers + Repair or rebuild equipment systems + Conduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation + Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather + Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity + Operate specialized tooling and vehicles + Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized + Interact with operations and shop management Mechanic Apprentices are required to: + Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs.
